The Ludwig Foundation for International Art and Understanding has donated this innovatory prize for the performing arts, which is to be awarded annually, in order to emphasize the degree of artistic variety contained within the programme of the Ludwig Forum. Since 1995 international performers who have made a significant contribution to fields such as Theatrical Dance, Music, Film, Video, or 'Inter-media Performance' have been honoured by a jury of distinguished adjudicators. Since 2002 the prize has been endowed with the sum of 10,000 Euros.
So far the prize-winners have been Compagnie Taffanel (F), Taipei Dance Circle (Taiwan), Ingun Bjornsgaard Prosject (N), Laurie Anderson (USA), Theater Derevo (St. Petersburg/Dresden), Black Blanc Beur (F) and Carol Brown (GB), Peter Gabriel (GB), Peter Greenaway (GB) and Abdullah Ibrahim (Südafrika).
