Aachen is a future laboratory. The whole city ticks to the rhythm of universities and research. The RWTH Aachen University, a "University of Excellence" in research and teaching, the FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences, the Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, the Jülich Research Centre, along with Fraunhofer, Leibniz and Helmholtz institutes all stand for scientific creativity, technological innovation and social progress.
And this also benefits Aachen's economy. Universities and businesses work in close collaboration, in forums and networks, in spin-offs and start-ups. More than every tenth job holder in the research and development sector works in the district of Aachen.
With the RWTH Aachen Campus, a completely new quarter of the city has been evolving since 2010, an international hot spot for research, development and teaching – with close ties to industry and a truly interdisciplinary approach. A good 360 companies have already set up shop here.
Knowledge-based economic activity – that's the hallmark of the high-tech region Aachen. It creates a climate throughout the Euregio that inspires enthusiasm for discoveries, inventions and developments of international renown.
No wonder, then, that forward-thinking companies like FEV, Ford, Grünenthal, Philips, Saint-Gobain Glass or e.Go Mobile are located here. And Aachen has a sweet side, too, deliciously represented by the world-famous products of the companies Lambertz, Lindt and Zentis.
